Auto FAQ
Wondering what it costs? See our Texas insurance pricing guide for typical ranges and what moves your rate.
How much auto insurance do I actually need in Texas? +
Texas requires 30/60/25 liability minimums, but that rarely protects your assets. We calculate the right limits based on what you own and what you'd lose in a serious accident.
Can I bundle my auto with my home insurance? +
Yes, bundling auto and home is typically the single fastest way to lower both premiums. We quote bundle vs. separate to show you the real numbers.
Do you work with drivers who have tickets or accidents? +
Absolutely. Being an independent agent means we have access to carriers that specialize in non-standard risk, we find the best option for your specific history.
How much does car insurance cost in Texas? +
Full-coverage auto insurance in Texas averages roughly $2,340 to $2,960 a year in 2026, while state-minimum liability runs about $600 to $1,570. Your rate depends most on your driving record, credit, age, vehicle, and ZIP code. See our pricing page for the full breakdown, then let us shop 20+ carriers for your real number.
What is collision coverage, and do I need it? +
Collision pays to repair or replace your own vehicle after a crash, no matter who was at fault. It's optional under Texas law but required by virtually every lender or lessor while you still owe on the car. Claims pay the vehicle's actual cash value minus your deductible, so on an older car worth little it can make sense to drop it, while on a newer or financed vehicle it's essential.
What is PIP (personal injury protection) in Texas, and do I need it? +
PIP pays medical bills and a portion of lost wages for you and your passengers after a crash, regardless of fault. Texas insurers must offer at least $2,500 in PIP and you have to reject it in writing, so if you never signed a rejection you may already have it. We usually recommend keeping it, because it's inexpensive and pays quickly without waiting for fault to be settled.
Is accident forgiveness worth it? +
Accident forgiveness waives the rate increase that normally follows your first at-fault accident. It typically adds about 2% to 9% to your premium and usually requires a clean record to qualify. Since a single at-fault accident can raise rates 20% to 40% for three to five years, forgiveness can save more than it costs, but not every driver needs it, and we'll tell you honestly whether it pays off on your policy.
Does car insurance cover my pet if it's hurt in a crash? +
Often, yes. Many carriers include limited pet injury coverage within collision or comprehensive, or offer it as an inexpensive endorsement, typically paying $500 to $1,000 toward vet bills if your dog or cat is injured in a covered accident. It's a small benefit, but worth knowing whether your policy includes it.
